Check-in to Check-out Booking

Guests book nights, not time slots.

Rooms & guesthouses

What it's for

A guest at a guesthouse doesn't think “a slot at 14:00”. They think “in on Friday, out on Sunday”. So for room and guesthouse planners, booking works in nights.

Guests choose their check-in day and their check-out day on one calendar, see how many nights that is, and then see only the rooms that are free for every one of those nights. A room that is taken on the second night never shows up as an option.

Your staff book the same way from the mainboard, and a rooms × days board shows two weeks of stays at a glance, so you can see which rooms are free next weekend without opening a single booking.

How to reach & use it

1
Guests pick their dates
On your booking page, guests tap their check-in day and then their check-out day. They see the number of nights, then only the rooms that are free for the whole stay.
2
Arrival and departure times
Check-in is at 15:00 and check-out is at 11:00 unless you set your own in Preferences › Booking style. Monday to Wednesday is two nights, from Monday 15:00 to Wednesday 11:00, so the room is free again for a new arrival that afternoon. Guests can change both when they book, and staff on any booking; a check-out later than the check-in time counts one more night.
3
Book a stay for a guest
On the mainboard, tap a free cell on the room's row. Choose 1, 2 or 3 nights on the date card, or open the booking and pick the check-in and check-out days on its calendar. The availability check covers every night of the stay.
4
See who is staying when
Switch the mainboard to Rooms × days: one row per room, fourteen days across. Each stay is a bar from its check-in afternoon to its check-out morning. Tap an empty day to start a booking there.

Limits & good to know

On by default for room and guesthouse planners. Car, yacht and plane planners can switch to booking by days too, and a room planner can switch to booking by the hour: see Booking by Time or by Days.
Your check-in and check-out times (15:00 and 11:00 unless you change them in Preferences › Booking style) are the defaults for every room. Guests can pick an earlier check-in or a later check-out when they book, and staff can change them on any booking. A check-out later than the check-in time counts one more night.
Guests can't check in on a day you have put on hold for online bookings.
Approval works here too: with Require approval on, a stay arrives as a request and holds its room until you answer.

Frequently asked questions

Can a guest book a single night?

Yes. Tapping the check-in day and then the next day is one night, and so is tapping the same day twice.

Can someone else take the room in the middle of a stay?

No. The whole stay is checked when it is booked, and the room is held for every night of it.

Can a new guest arrive on the day another one leaves?

Yes. Check-out is at 11:00 and check-in at 15:00, so the same room can take both on one day.
